Found this at an old homestead in North Dakota. Websters were one of the original farm families that went north with the Gwinnetts. This is Betty Webster’s diary that she obviously left behind. I’ll send other pages as we restore them.
“I’m not feeling well at all this morning, my stomach is churning and rumbling away down there. Acid burns. Just not doing well but there’s no option but to keep on going. We have the garden – thank God for that – and the well isn’t dry yet either. Charlie’s daddy drilled it halfway to China and we’re thankful (he caught royal hell from Buelah for wasting that money at the time though). Half the county doesn’t have any. We’re making sure Matt and Brenda have enough and they’re helping us out with some extra things from the store.
Tough to get up and face each morning. Sometimes I want to stop it all. Three failed harvest now – how long can we keep this up.
